I don’t really think you can.

Yesterday was a challenging day for me at work. I got caught up in a web of lies.

I’ve had years of experience dealing with twisted people and I’ve learned to watch what I say and do. I’ve tried very hard to make sure that I don’t get caught up in situations where people can lie about me.

I’ve learned the hard way that people will say and do anything to protect their jobs or make themselves look. I’ve also learned the hard way that I don’t know how to play these games. I’m quite sure I could never have a career in politics.

So, yesterday I felt like a complete fool. Even after all these years of training, I still got trapped. I still fell for the dirtiest trick in the book…. having a phone conversation instead of a written exchange. My stupidly, naive thought process…

When it comes to work and business dealings, no one is your friend, not matter how friendly your relationship may be.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think everyone is evil. I think most of the time people lie to save their jobs because they don’t know any other way. They are not strong enough to own up to their mistakes or stand by what they have said. Some think that they can escape repercussions by blaming others.

Even though I know people say “the truth is always on your side”, the truth can’t help you when people spread vicious lies. Somehow, people tend to believe lies more than truth possibly because the truth is too simple.

I’ve decided to simply stick to my principles because that’s what’s ingrained in me. I know no other way and I won’t do it any other way. If I have to suffer because of this, and I have, I will because ultimately there’s a higher form of judgement.
