An interesting thing happened to me last night. A friend I had lost contact with for over 15 years sent me a message on Facebook. He wasn’t a very close friend but, there was a time when we all hung out together quite a bit. One of those friends who happen to be there during a certain phase of your life.
We started talking and it was interesting to recap the last 15 years of my life to him. I think when we meet new friends, we do kind of tell them how our life was or things we’ve done. It’s not the same as telling someone how much your life has changed over the last 15 years. What’s more interesting is that he had an idea in his head of how I was to turn out. The reality, in some ways, is so much more different than what he expected.
I’m definitely not the same person I used to be back then, but then again, it’s not like life has turned out bad either. Interestingly he has changed so much as well. He used to be a singer. He played the guitar and even did a few small local concerts. We used love to hanging out and just listening to him sing. Seems like he’s given up music and become a slave to the corporate world. It’s not like he’s not doing well but, he is so talented. He’s probably the best singer I know in person and he could have done so much with that.
Well it seems like life doesn’t always turn out the way you think you would. A recap to a long lost friend will surely make you stop and think for a while…..
I once wrote a blog post titled “A letter to myself at 20” (or something like that) – telling me all the news about myself. It was fun – you should try it.

Sounds like a great idea. I’ll definitely do it.

I’ve seen a few of these and they really are great. Can you share the link to it? And FW, I went home recently and revisited some old childhood memories. I’m writing a blog about how it impacted me (very similar to your experience) so stay tuned!

He probably gave it a really big shot but it’s hard to persevere in a music or arts career because of the uncertainty of finances etc. even for me I understand because being an athlete aiming for the Olympic Games is equally a tough gig to rely upon.

You are so right. It can’t be easy.
It’s so awesome that you’re aiming for the Olympic Games. Amazing. Good luck.
