Sure, I’ve started accounts on Medium and various other channels. But, I have a few blogs where I write anonymously and this is one of them.
I like writing anonymously and I think sometimes it’s essential. Very often I’ll think of an idea that I want to express but, I’m not sure that I’d really like the people who know me to read it.
I’m not famous. But, in this day and age, the moment you meet someone, the first they do is google you. I’m not ready to share my inner most thoughts with people who are looking to work with me.
For the longest time, I wrote anonymously because I worked for a large bank and I just didn’t want a conflict of interest. Now, I just don’t want people to google me and find everything that I have to say.
I’m not sure I want a potential client to know how much I love planners or, feel I’m soft because of the quotes I often post.
We all have various facets to our lives. For each, we wear a different persona. This doesn’t necessarily mean you are fake. I’m mostly the same person with everyone. But, that doesn’t mean I will spill my guts to client the way I would with my best friend.
Writing anonymously also gives you a certain amount of freedom. I feel myself wanting to write more for my anonymous blogs. The reason is simple… I don’t feel restricted. I don’t feel I have to watch what I say or how I say it. I know some people may not always like what I have to say and that’s ok. But, I’m not so sure I want to take that sort of personal criticism.
Am I playing it safe? May be. But I’d rather be safe, than sorry.
