Happy Thursday all! We’re around to that time of the week again. This has been a slow week for me. Nevertheless, I’ve gotten around to doing some writing at least.

School’s out

Today’s the last day of school here in Dubai before the long winter break. We have an enormous expat population here and most people will be travelling including my family. The city becomes very quiet and even the people who are left behind seem to lose steam. The weather is so pleasant and even though not much work is getting done, there’s a pleasant feeling of excitement.

Out of sight, out of mind

I didn’t achieve most of my goals this year. I can’t say that I crapped out completely, but it’s been a struggle. When I started out my consulting practice, I was very lucky to start out strong. I was riding on the high of having so much work as I left my job and I started to become complacent. Now, it’s almost a year later, I’ve closed most of the projects I had in hand, and I haven’t sourced a new deal in the last 3 months.

I missed out on a vital piece of the entrepreneurship process and that is marketing! I thought the work I was doing and the people I were meeting were enough for “word-of-mouth” advertising. Turns out I was wrong.

The truth is without marketing, it’s “out of sight, out of mind”. Not having the right kind of marketing can kill your business and I should have known that since I majored in Marketing in College.

A new word I learned
